Five Good Reasons to Visit Las Vegas in the Summer

Posted by bgolshahi | Posted in Casino Gaming | Posted on 25-06-2010

School is out and vacation time is waiting to be used. You could choose to travel anywhere in the summer, so why should Las Vegas top your list? Simply put, there’s no better time to check out what Sin City has to offer. If you need more convincing, here are five good reasons to visit Las Vegas in the summer:

1. Promotions are a dime a dozen. Even though summer is among the city’s busiest times of the year, Las Vegas hotels are clamoring for your business and chances are you can snag discounted prices and promotional upgrades if you ask. Flights to Las Vegas are frequent and therefore relatively inexpensive. Make your Las Vegas vacation even cheaper by taking advantage of last-minute ticket purchases for shows on the Strip.

2. Days are long and sunny. Las Vegas enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine every year, and you’re practically guaranteed good weather when you visit. It will be hot (expect temperatures to hover between 90F and 110F), but there are plenty of air-conditioned buildings to duck into when the need arises. The sun rises around 5:30, so make your plans to go golfing when it’s light enough to see but cool enough to be outside for an extended amount of time.

3. Plentiful pools help you stay cool. Visitors flock to Sin City in the summer for the city’s hot pool scene. Las Vegas pool clubs consist of everything from sophisticated, European-style pools to hip, poolside parties with live DJs and A-list celebrity sightings. Fight the summer heat with cool water just a few feet away and a fruity, frothy drink in hand. Arrive early to claim a lounge chair or splurge for a VIP cabana complete with air conditioning and personal attendants.

4. Everything is open. Unlike the slower seasons in Las Vegas, everything is open and running at full capacity during the summer. Shows are rarely on break, performers are in town and concert venues have schedules booked with big-name bands. Very few things are closed for renovations, and the city even tends to avoid major construction projects in heavily trafficked areas (though this isn’t to say you won’t run into some construction work during your visit).

5. People watching is at its prime. Though people watching is a fun activity year-round on the Las Vegas Strip, it’s even more enjoyable in the summer. Perhaps it’s the lack of clothing people are wearing or the carefree summer attitude that comes with the season. Regardless, you’ll likely find yourself checking out people’s clothes, hair styles and tattoos more often than you would other times of the year (except for maybe Halloween and New Year’s Eve).

Five Secrets to Affordable Las Vegas Vacation Travel

Interested in Las Vegas vacation travel this year, but working on a budget? Take advantage of this year’s excellent and limited time opportunities, like an affordable Las Vegas vacation hotel, so you can visit Sin City without the sinful price tag. Besides, who wants to waste money that could better be used on a night at a show or gambling? The following short-and-simple Five Secrets to an Affordable Las Vegas Vacation should get you moving on the right track to spending a couple hundreds of dollars instead of several hundreds to thousands.

First Secret: Pick Up Rooms Off the Strip

Check out the Las Vegas vacation hotel packages available just off the Strip. These snazzy hotels have all the fun and glam of the Strip without the $100s nightly cost. In fact, the limited Las Vegas vacation travel deal provided at that link gets you a whole weekend for just $125, including a $100 discount booklet! Imagine your rooms for the weekend costing just $25.

Second Secret: Try Your Gambling at Different Casinos

You’re hard pressed to find an affordable blackjack or roulette table along the Strip, but there are still plenty of casinos with better odds and payouts! Try out Jumbo Bingo, Jumbo Keno, Jumbo Hold ‘Em and Jumbo Pennies!

Third Secret: Get Your Show Tickets Same Day

Tix 4 Tonight, located behind the giant Coke bottle at 3785 Las Vegas Blvd. — or 7 other places around town — sells tickets for same-day shows that have not yet sold out. You’re not going to find the popular shows that require advance booking here, but if you’re looking to see a magician or just have a night of fun during your Las Vegas vacation travel, this is definitely the place. If you visit their website, you can even download a coupon for an additional $2 off every ticket. Enjoy savings of up to 50%!

Fourth Secret: Visit During the Off Days

If you go to Las Vegas on days other than Friday, Saturday and Sunday, chances are you’ll not only get better hotel rates, but better show selections and less hassles. There are also several Las Vegas restaurants that offer discounts to weekday dining.

Fifth Secret: Don’t Skimp on the Strip

Now that we’ve told you to check out a Las Vegas vacation hotel and casinos off the Strip, it’s time to backtrack a bit: make sure to visit the Strip during your stay, but avoid all the luxurious fees in sleeping overnight. This may include wandering around Paris and Mandalay Bay and taking it easy on the $10 and $20 tables.

Here are some must-see hotels on the Strip in Las Vegas that everyone should visit during their stay:

  • Bellagio
  • Caesars Palace
  • Circus Circus
  • Excalibur
  • Luxor
  • Mandalay Bay
  • MGM Grand

  • Monte Carlo
  • Paris

Vegas Hotels Are Going Green

Posted by Nelle Frank | Posted in Casino Gaming | Posted on 25-01-2010

Las Vegas is Going Green

Las Vegas is Going Green

As businesses of all types push to “Go Green”, Las Vegas Hotels and Casinos have joined in on the effort, and for good reasons. Forbes Traveler found the Green Hotels movement compelling enough to recently publish a list naming 10 of America’s Greenest Hotels.

Some Las Vegas Hotels have jumped at the chance to offer greener-stays to their environmentally conscious visitors, enacting sweeping reforms like some of the following efforts put in place at the Red Rock Resort, Casino & Hotel (www.redrocklasvegas.com):

  • Reduced energy use in every room, without sacrificing guest comfort
  • Reduced consumption of electricity, natural gas, water, and other waste products
  • Extensive use of recycled products, including glass, cardboard, aluminum, plastic, food waste, fryer oil, and kitchen grease. Don’t worry- the kitchen grease isn’t “reused” in meals, but turned into environmentally friendly bio-diesel fuel.
  • Delivering food waste to animal farms rather than landfills, reducing damage to the environment
  • Eco-conscious use of linens, where towels left on the rack are not replaced, giving hotel guests the option to reuse towels, reducing consumption of water and electricity
  • Installation of water-conserving plants and landscaping for hotel grounds

Like other hotels around the country, the Red Rock Resort has found that implementation of greener business practices can also provide significant savings to the bottom like. In fact, they report that total energy usage has been decreased by 8% since the April 2006 opening, saving them considerable “green” of a different type when it comes to paying the electricity bills.

For more details on the Red Rock’s efforts, check out their Green Las Vegas Hotels page. Highlights include:

-Nearly halving the number of trash compactors filled each week
-Recycling 35 tons of solid waste each month, enough to fill 10 Garbage Trucks
-Use of energy-efficient LED lighting for Marquee signage, reducing energy consumption by about 85%
-Installation of energy-efficient guest room thermostats, reducing energy consumption by over 35%
-Annual electricity savings approximately equivalent to the power consumed by 375 homes

Fortunately, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander and these savings appear to be getting passed on to you, the guest. We hope that other Las Vegas Hotels and Casinos follow Red Rock’s example by making similar adjustments- helping out the environment without hurting our pocketbook!

As a consumer, you have a major say in which businesses continue to receive financial support. Cast your vote for greener facilities by choosing to stay at one of the hotels doing their part to be eco-friendly, and be sure to let them know that’s why you’re there.
