Interested in Las Vegas vacation travel this year, but working on a budget? Take advantage of this year’s excellent and limited time opportunities, like an affordable Las Vegas vacation hotel, so you can visit Sin City without the sinful price tag. Besides, who wants to waste money that could better be used on a night at a show or gambling? The following short-and-simple Five Secrets to an Affordable Las Vegas Vacation should get you moving on the right track to spending a couple hundreds of dollars instead of several hundreds to thousands.

First Secret: Pick Up Rooms Off the Strip

Check out the Las Vegas vacation hotel packages available just off the Strip. These snazzy hotels have all the fun and glam of the Strip without the $100s nightly cost. In fact, the limited Las Vegas vacation travel deal provided at that link gets you a whole weekend for just $125, including a $100 discount booklet! Imagine your rooms for the weekend costing just $25.

Second Secret: Try Your Gambling at Different Casinos

You’re hard pressed to find an affordable blackjack or roulette table along the Strip, but there are still plenty of casinos with better odds and payouts! Try out Jumbo Bingo, Jumbo Keno, Jumbo Hold ‘Em and Jumbo Pennies!

Third Secret: Get Your Show Tickets Same Day

Tix 4 Tonight, located behind the giant Coke bottle at 3785 Las Vegas Blvd. — or 7 other places around town — sells tickets for same-day shows that have not yet sold out. You’re not going to find the popular shows that require advance booking here, but if you’re looking to see a magician or just have a night of fun during your Las Vegas vacation travel, this is definitely the place. If you visit their website, you can even download a coupon for an additional $2 off every ticket. Enjoy savings of up to 50%!

Fourth Secret: Visit During the Off Days

If you go to Las Vegas on days other than Friday, Saturday and Sunday, chances are you’ll not only get better hotel rates, but better show selections and less hassles. There are also several Las Vegas restaurants that offer discounts to weekday dining.

Fifth Secret: Don’t Skimp on the Strip

Now that we’ve told you to check out a Las Vegas vacation hotel and casinos off the Strip, it’s time to backtrack a bit: make sure to visit the Strip during your stay, but avoid all the luxurious fees in sleeping overnight. This may include wandering around Paris and Mandalay Bay and taking it easy on the $10 and $20 tables.

Las Vegas Dining Destinations – Part II

Posted by Johnson Wang | Posted in Las Vegas Dining | Posted on 07-12-2009

Last time we covered Las Vegas Dining Destinations, we reviewed and covered four gastronomical destinations that won’t leave your wallet crying for mercy while remaining a pleasant place to bring a date to. In this edition of Las Vegas Info Blog’s latest dining adventure, we’ll cover some of the most overlooked hole-in-the-wall restaurants that the Sin City has to offer.

Las Vegas and “hole-in-the-wall”? Do those two phrases deserve to be in the same sentence together? Read on to find out.

Hole in the Wall Destinations for Foodies

Firefly Restaurant

Firefly Restaurant

Firefly ($20-$40)

What does Firefly (a tapas bar) and Firefly (the TV show) have in common?

Both have achieved cult success , both are fun and wacky, and both are relatively unknown. This tapa bar, which currently has two locations in Las Vegas, is known for having affordable tapas staples such as stuffed dates with bacon, fresh ceviche, and empanadas while experimenting with fare along the lines of Manchego Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Terra y Mare skewers (starring grilled shrimp, filet mignon, and chorizo sausage), and Merguez (spicy lamb sausage, tomato-pepper confit, and grilled bread). Dishes start from $3.50 (did I mention that this place was affordable?)

Las Vegas, NV 89109

Sushi and Sake Restaurants

Sushi + Sake Restaurant

Sushi + Sake ($20-$40)

The name of the restaurant reminds me of the quadratic equation, and the interior seems to be strongly influenced by contemporary, flowing geometric shapes. However, the only math I was interested in was $32.99 for all you can eat sushi, and Sushi + Sake delivered. I wasn’t a fan of the strange techno-ish music and I wasn’t too impressed by the changing colors of the walls, but the fish is buttery fresh and literally melts in your mouth.

Ichiza Restaurant

Ichiza Restaurant

Ichiza ($10-$30)

This place defines hole-in-the-wall:

1) It’s located in a Strip Mall

2) You can’t locate it on a fancy GPS

3) It’s entirely occupied by locals and veteran tourists. Quiet and serene on the outside, a packed house on the inside.

Ichiza offers delicious Japanese-style street food in a noisy and casual environment. A giant grill lies in the middle of the restaurant so you can see chefs grilling traditional fare such as beef tongue and chicken hearts, and those who want something less adventurous can sample the delicious Yellowtail Tar Tar.

4355 Spring Mountain Rd

Las Vegas, NV 89102

(702) 367-3151

Capri Ristorante

Capri Ristorante

Capri Italian Ristorante ($20-$40)

For Italian fare without fanfare, look no further than Capri Italian Ristorante. Classic comfort foods including calamari, shrimp scampi, and lasagna – all which are executed well, Italian grandmother style. A favorite of mine includes the chicken/artichoke in a wine butter sauce, over a bed of al dente penne. For those who love to pair wine with their tomato-based dishes, try the house Cab.

Las Vegas Dining Destinations – Part I

Posted by Johnson Wang | Posted in Las Vegas Dining | Posted on 13-11-2009

Las Vegas is a mecca to many people, ranging from gamblers looking for prolonged gaming sessions, thrill seekers looking for the perfect Las Vegas show, and those seeking quick ways to form lifetime bonds with their significant others (or strangers). However, foodies from all corners of the world flock to Vegas because of its huge proliferation of ethnic food, buffets, and cheap street food – if you know where to look. We attempted to compile a small guide to some of the best food places, both on and off the Strip, for any budget.

Splurge

Bouchon

Bouchon Restaurant

Bouchon ($40-$60)

Thomas Keller, famous for the multiple award-winning French Laundry and Ad Hoc, is also renowned for his Michelin rated Bouchon restaurant. Located in The Venetian (on the Vegas strip), Keller aims to serve moderately priced French fare with an unpretentious attitude. Although I normally shy away from celebrity chef restaurants as they tend to be overrated and underwhelming, Keller has a reputation for keeping a tight rein on his establishments. Stand out dishes include the chilled avocado soup, roasted duck, and fresh bread from the nearby Bouchon Bakery.

3355 Las Vegas Blvd S

Las Vegas, NV 89109

(702) 414-6200

T-Bones Chophouse

T-Bones Chophouse

T-Bones Chophouse ($60-$80)

T-Bones Chophouse may be situated a bit off the beaten path, but for those seeking a classic vibe in a contemporary setting, T-Bones delivers one of the best Las Vegas Steak Houses. Known for their famously large, dry-aged steaks, bone-in meats, and fresh seafood delivered daily, this Chophouse will situate diners near a piano lounge and fireplace. There is nothing like biting into a perfectly aged steak – the flavor of the crust can be described as nutty, complex, and succulent. The “Godzilla” lobster tail also never fails to disappoint for foodies seeking the best off-Strip Las Vegas dining experience.

11011 W. Charleston Blvd

Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa

Las Vegas, NV 89135

(702) 797-7576

Feast

Burger Bar

Burger Bar

Burger Bar ($20-$60)

Looking for something that you don’t have to dress up for, but still want to have a touch of class with your meal? Grab a hunk of meat and satisfy your inner carnivore with the aptly named Burger Bar. Standard burgers are not found here – what you find is huge, irregularly shaped monuments to cows, buffalo, or…chopped up vegetables (hey, the veggie burgers rock here). Those with discerning taste and fat wallets can engage in meaty discourse with Kobe beef burgers topped with gourmet toppings such as sautéed foie gras and shaved truffles. Located in Mandalay Bay, on the Vegas Strip.

3930 Las Vegas Blvd S

Las Vegas, NV 89136

(702) 632-9364

Tides Oyster Bar

Tides Oyster Bar

Tides Oyster Bar ($20-$40)

For those seeking seafood at a reasonable price, Tides Oyster Bar does Las Vegas Seafood Restaurants the right way – big portions, fresh food, and great prices. The namesake oysters are big, meaty, and fresh and come with a wide variety of sauces for picky eaters. Portions are big, and expect a rowdy, friendly scene on game nights as many of the flat screen TVs will be showing the best game that night. Complete the experience with some flavorful Creole food, fresh fish, and cold beers!
